The IBM Embedded PC DOS OEM Adapation Kit (OAK) provides a DOS-based,
full-screen, easy-to-use interface for rapid development of XIP or non-XIP,
reduced size and function versions of PC DOS for embedded applications.
Using the OAK, these optimized PC DOS ROM images can be built in minutes,
ready to be burned into ROM. Manual build tools are also included, as well as
the DOSTEST tool for testing the resulting ROM images. Developers can also
use the OAK to build their applications, PC DOS commands and utilities into a
ROM drive image so that media support is not required. IBM provides a simple,
low-cost OEM contract and pricing structure for distribution of the resulting
PC DOS ROM images.
The OAK includes Xmodem protocol communications software, device driver
sample code (virtual floppy disk and null printer drivers), and documentation.
The OAK also includes Cooperative Multitasker code that can give an application
the ability to multitask for better performance. Developers can include the sample
multitasking code in an application program so the program can start and control
tasks that have priorities, wait on semaphores and provide return codes when
terminated.
IBM PC DOS includes an extensive set of commands and utilities, including PCMCIA
support, docking support, dynamic loading of device drivers, file synchronization
and Advanced Power Management. Pen support and Stacker compression are also
available. BIOS support is also available from IBM. Additional technology to support
Intel Architecture products is available from IBM's extensive software library.
